2 Weeks outside iPhone warranty HELP!!

Options
Hi my iPhone just died last Thursday, it was plugged in to charge then the screen went blank and it asked to be plugged into iTunes - did this it did nothing. Phoned (and paid £25) Apple for a support call and they tried to help me restore it. This didn't work, it has an error code suggesting its a hardware fault. I checked with my provider, Orange, and I'm 2 weeks outside of my year's warranty and they said take it to the Apple shop. I haven't been yet as I feel that I shouldn't have to pay over £100 for a repair when the damned thing has just given up the ghost! Especially when they are touted as a premium product and are expensive. I'm on a 2 year contract with Orange and really don't want to be stuck paying £35 a month for another year for a phone I can't use! Any advice?!

go to the apple store, be calm, and explain the situation - do not mention that its two weeks out of warranty - let them check that and find it if they wish.

I have seen a number of cases from people who have been out of warranty, have been calm, polite and civil, explained the situation and have had replacements that are just outside of warranty. Family member being one of them and they had the EXACT same issue as you - it died while docked.

The above sounds like the best advice.

Failing that, and I know this is an option of last resort, but someone would still buy it off of ebay - that would at least allow you to recoup some of the funds (how much exactly, I don't know). You'd just have to explain the fault and advertise it as for spares or repairs only.
  • Lovely thanks peeps :) I'll keep quiet about it being out of warranty and flash them my best smile :) I'll check out ebay too and see how much faulty ones are going for just in case!

it might appear that i'm jesting with that last post, and for the most part, i am. it did work, however, for mrs brettcta at the apple store. phone 3 weeks out of warranty, she gave them her best smile (which it's hard to say no to) and waltzed out with a refurbished, fully boxed replacement handset without paying a penny

I had exactly the same problem as you. Phone was 18 months old

I booked an appointment with apple tech people at my local apple store, played dumb and they fixed it no problem.
