Cracking Gumtree Scam!! I Got Done.... Now Paypal Chasing Me... What Shall I Do??

Why did you accept paypal payment on a gumtree sale that was collected? Didn't that send out some warning signals?
I'm pretty sure that googling Gumtree paypal scam would bring up lots of cases like this.
If you use ebay & therefore you have to use Paypal a lot then if you don't pay this off then you won't be able to use ebay again.0 -
it is of course entirely possible that the "nice guy who thought he was buying game cube games" is actually in on the scam.
think about it, if your a scammer and you pay for something by your own paypal, collect it in person then go home and reclaim the funds via a dispute you have left a solid trail back to yourself as the seller can request the buyers details from paypal, or even ask a court to order they be released to them if it went tht route. not very clever scamming.
But, if you get a partner in the scam to pay and then reclaim the funds saying that he too had been scammed then who do you pursue? you can't issue court papers or report to he police if you don't have a clue who the guy is....thats clever scamming.
i'd be demanding that paypal investigate this person who paid you to see if he has made any similar claims before repaying a single penny......."A wise man once told me don't argue with fools because people from a distance can't tell who is who"........0 -

Id rather that then pay twice.0 -
Ofcourse tht could of been the case..
But im 99% sure it isnt, he has helped me trying to explain to paypal + police.. And has had police round to link us together..it is of course entirely possible that the "nice guy who thought he was buying game cube games" is actually in on the scam.

Thing is Girlfriend if you lose your paypal account & I'm surprised that they are allowing you to use it at the moment then you won't be able to use ebay.
Paypal generally freeze the account.
Do the police hold out much hope of tracing the scammer & successfully prosecuting?
If not I can't see how you will get away without repaying the money to paypal.0 -

Unfortunately you can't list without paypal, so if you do and someone clicks the 'pay now' button they go automatically to paypal to pay. If you put afake paypal ID then their payment still goes through and shows as paid but not collected. That means you can't NPB them and you get to pay all your lovely fees and probably get a neg from the buyer as well. You'll probably get away with it twice at most before your selling days cease.
It doesn't matetr how trustworthy you are most buyers use paypal, end of. On my business account for instance I can go for several hundred transactions before someone pays by any other means . Also if you mention anything in your listing about not taking paypal then you will look like a scammer, and also of course get suspended when reported to ebay.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
