Wireless router question

Just ordered myself a laptop and I have a netgear wireless router (provided by telewest), which I'll be replacing my wired netgear router with. Thanks to the many threads on this site I shouldn't have a problem securing the network. But my question is, can I have the wireless router wired to my desktop and use the wireless access for the laptop?
Since the modem sits on top of the desktop I figured I'd have the router wired if I can, save having to add a wireless card to the desktop, and the laptop has built in wireless.
I've never set up a wireless network before so I'm basically just asking if it'll work that way? Or if it'll cause problems.
Thanks for any advice.

It should work fine that way, I have mine set up just like that even though the PC has a wireless card I wired the router in, kinda habit I guess. The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j0

That should work just fine - you can just ignore the Wireless feature or even disable it via the router's web interface.

That should work fine. On your netgear wireless router you'll have Ethernet sockets (my Linksys has 4) so wire the desktop to this via cable0

Thanks. Just wanted to check I wouldn't have problems setting it up this way.Sigless0
