Asda car insurance problem

Hi. Basically I had to renew my insurance last month. I was with Elephant and Asda were slightly cheaper. I didn't have money in my account for Elephant to automatically renew so thought that would be fine and Elephant would cancel when I didn't pay. Now I've sent my no claims discount of 5 years to Asda and they are saying that Elephant are saying I've got insurance with them still. Asda are saying now that I'm not entitled to no claims now. I sent proof of no claims and have got proof of when my insurance was due for renewal.
What should I do now as Asda are saying I need to pay more because they are not accepting my no claims discount?

You need to cancel your Elephant policy and explain to Asda that it was renewed in error, and that you now only have the one policy.

You need to be thankful that Elephant haven't cancelled the policy for non-payment or worse still no intent to pay (which is a class of fraud) as you would be at least doubling if not tripling all your insurances for the rest of your life.

If you want to cancel the Elephant policy you have to do it by calling them rather than ending up with debt collectors. Once the policy is cancelled you will need to speak to Asda and see what they can do. Their policy should really start from the date the Elephant one is cancelled and then you can use the NCD as it will only be being used on one policy.

Most importantly learn from the lesson, non-payment is not a way to cancel any contract

Thanks for the replies. It wasn't a case of it being the middle of a years cover. It was the end of the cover and they automatically renewed. I'll speak to them anyway and explain that.

Almost every insurer does auto/ assumptive/ tasset renewals and it will state so both at the time of purchase and when they send your renewal invite. The FOS are in support of them because it reduces the previously much more common complaint and its legal consequences of when people forget their insurance is due and the policy lapses leaving them driving without insurance.

Why did you not cancel the policy with elephant, nothing wrong with auto renew and quite easy to deal with. Get a calender and write on it when the policy is due to expire or make a note 3 or 4 weeks before the expiriy date that you need to get insurance prices.
