Heh-heh. I bought a 3 piece suite for a mate on Ebay for 99p because I was sick to death of sitting on the junk that he had. It was dated but looked like it had never been sat in and when he went to collect it, it was from an old couple who had it in their front room where they kept the [STRIKE]unused[/STRIKE] best stuff for visitors as a lot of older people did and which probably meant had never been used.

We've had our current pair of sofas about 5 years, and got them for free - it's absolutely amazing what some people chuck out because they want "new and shiny/latest fashion". They were replaced by the previous owners because one end of one of the sofas was faded where it was up against a conservatory door. That end is up against a wall in our house. :D

We bought our huge old leather chesterfield sofa on eBay (local collection) for £65.

    It will outlive us!

This is what I would like next :D But it will have to be one of the smaller ones!

  • i had to leave a thread, for anyone out there contamplating buying a second hand sofa either from ebay or anywhere else, it isnt a question about payment most of us have the instinct to figure out if somethings iffy, or a good buy etc etc but on top of that there are other issues, a few months ago i saw a smashing set of 2x2 leather sofas on ebay, just the style i wanted (vintage club style) tan leather they looked great, hubby wasnt too keen (he dislikes 2nd hand stuff!!) but i knew the sofas cost around £2000 new, & having 2 young children was reluctant to spend that on new sofas, anyhoo the sofas were fairly local, which was a bonas so we aranged to go view them before the auction end, when we got there the lady lived in a massive impressive house! the lady herself was lovely, & showed us the sofas stored in her equally massive garage! apart from some surface wear on one sofa they looked fab, even hubby was impressed! "how much for them then" remarked my hubby, the lady took £200 for the pair, we were thrilled! we sent a courier for them 2 days later (a further £50) well its been 2 months since i bought them, & if i could turn the clock back....thing is quite simply they smell...yes they are fab to look at but they have an odour about them we i cannot shift, i have spent about £100 trying to remove the smell which may be the leather? or the fact she may have a dog? either way i cannot face sitting in my living room most days & have stopped friends from visiting, my hubby says he cant smell anything but i can, when i go out & come home the smell is there, its not something you think about when viewing 2nd hand stuff if it looks clean, but it isnt worth it, i am stuck with them now untill we can replace them, but i will never buy anything like this 2nd hand again, i googled this and found alot of people have had the same problem, unless you have too, never buy 2nd hand sofas.....

Odour Stop (natural product) will totally eliminate odour from leather and fabric furniture and carpets as long as the odour is not the leather itself. Sometimes the tanning processes used can make the leather itself smell and this will be impossible to remove.

    Hope this helps
