will tax credits pay me back?

hi, i just renewed my tax credits today. when i applied in sept 2010 (first time cliaming) they based my award on 09-10 income which was £17,500.

as i was on maternity leave this year, i worked out after allowable deductions my income was £12,300.

i asked the lady on the phone would they backpay me as the award was based on the wrong amount but she couldnt tell me. does anyone know.

as far as im aware they do pay you if your entitled to it. My friend called up to update her claim last week and few days later got a payout. Ive found aswell that if you call back they can check what award pyts are being paid to you but your prob best calling after the tax credit deadline date. x

In the year 2008/2009 I estimated my husbands (self employed) income to be £22000, but when the recession hit that reduced and he earned much less than that, cant remember the actual figure. We got a back payment of £1200 when we renewed.
