connect digital tv to surround sound

I have a new TV with HD and freeview and i wandt to connect my dvd home theatre to it so i can get surround sound TV, but my DVD is not HD
can anyone help please

    If your TV set has phono L+R audio outputs you should be able to connect them to the audio inputs on your sound amplifier. That will provide stereo and Dolby Prologic (when broadcast). If your TV has an optical output then that will provide DD5.1 surround sound if you connect it to the optical input on your sound amplifier.

    Freeview is 2.0 mix, but if the home theatre has Pro-Logic II that'll do an OK job of simulating surround sound.
  • not sure what you mean by "audio inputs on your sound amplifier"
    i only have a scart lead connection in the back of DVD

    What make & model is the TV and the DVD/home theatre?
  • the tv is a TWF LCD2641ID DVD/ HOME THEATRE IS A sony DAV-DZ100
    only just bought TV, ( 15 yr old son, bought it , hes got an xbox 360 and wanted to one HD ready- its in his room)

    You won't be able to connect the TV to that unit - it has no audio inputs.
