Caravan Park near Alton Towers

Have never been to Alton Towers so before kids, 15 and 11, report us for child abuse we have decided to give in and take them next week.
Borrowing sister-in-laws caravan for few days so any advice on a good location to stay would be appreciated.

Camping and Caravanning Club, usually nice sites, but not the friendliest of staff. (Generally speaking)

The Camping and Caravanning Club have bought a local campsite and refurbished it. It's called Star something or other. It's being advertised as convenient for Alton Towers.
  • wE Stayed on this campsite many years ago, it is was called the star inn it is about a mile and a half from Alton Towers, there is a fantastic pub opposite that sells great meals.
    Hope this helps. x
  • The Star campsite used to be hellish- if the CC have taken it over it might be worth another look sometime.

There's a nice small site at Cheddleton about 200 metres from the station on the Churnet Valley Railway. It's less than half an hour from Alton Towers and excellent if you or kids are into steam heritage railways.

We've stayed at a site called Rivendale near Ashbourne twice. It's about 30 mins drive from Alton Towers and the the toilets and showers were very clean.

Thanks for tips and advice. We decided to give the nearest one, Star, a miss and stayed here:

It was great, lovely site set in the woods and pretty close to AT.
  • Star gets bad reviews for being a bit strict. Google around the camping forums and you should find information.
