Best free key logging software?

Hi,

my daughter (12 going on 22) has now taken to going onto the family pc only with the door closed and is always careful to erase her surfing history.

Is there any good key logging software i can use to check out some of the sites etc that she is going onto?

I presume that it can be set up so she wont know its on the pc?

i searched through the forum and this was raised about 18 months ago, i wonder if anybody has used that software or any other ones. Somebody else recommended perfect keylogger from blazing tools

i know i could talk to her but i want to warn her then put this on

thanks

At 12 years old she shouldn't even have the choice of whether to shut the door or not.., If she isn't willing to use the PC with the door open/Adult present then I'd tell her she isn't using the PC...*end of*
  • If you search this forum for parental controls, then there are loads of similar questions on the subject.. personally I think key logging is going a bit too far, why not just open the door, move the PC to a family room, and keep an eye on her instead. She's probably just chatting to her friends, and I doubt that she will be too pleased if she finds out you are spying on her.

If you have a router, you could log the sites she is going to, which is not quite as invasive as watching everything she types. Then if you find anything that you don't like, discuss it with her.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

    Hi,

I work in IT Security and thought it might be worth mentioning a free content protection application called K9. https://www.k9webprotection.com. It doesn't perform any keylogging, but you can block any category you like (!!!!!!, gambling, web chat etc). It also logs what sites were accessed, so you can monitor generally what is going on. Also, it's virtually uncrackable.

I can recommend this product as it's created by Bluecoat (a top IT security company).

If you need more info, PM me.

    Good Luck.

Probably not careful enough if using Microsoft Internet Explorer - index.dat stores a great deal of information about one's browsing habits and is not easily deleted. You can use this to read its contents.
  • i dont know what firewall/virusscan package you have but with mcafees privacy service you can view every site that has been visited

And a basic human rights violation (right to privacy). Social services will be round to help with "parenting skills"...;)
  • I used to be on a committee looking into the pros and cons of this sort of application of technology.

Truth is, there's no technological solution to what you want to achieve and, even if there were, it'd still be no substitute for sitting down with your kid and saying "Hey, mind if we talk for a minute?".
