Mobile Top ups @ Sainsbury's

Has anyone come across the strange rule from Sainsbury's whereby they can sell you a top up voucher and if you later find out they have given you the wrong one. When you go back to the store and it is more than one hour later they refuse to give you the money back or exchange it for the correct one?
This happened to my girlfriend and she purchased a £10 top up to use a few days later and when she tried to input the code for her O2 phone she realised they had given her a Vodafone voucher.
The store refused to exchange this or give her the money back, can they do this?
Are we alone with this or has anyone else come across this?

It seems common practise as the networks themselves do not do refunds. However I suppose if you leave it a couple of days then yeah I can see why.0

It's not just Sainsbury's. Most if not all retaillers will have the same rule as a voucher cannot be refunded after more than 1 hour on their systems and they have no proof that you haven't used it due to a loophole in the system which doesn't flag up a used voucher until the network refuses the rebate to the retailler meaning the retailler has lost the money. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

All the major supermarkets have this rule due to the networks not offering refunds to retailers and/or allowing them to cancel a top up voucher code.:dance:Quidco Payments In 2011 - £724.21
