Need new (old) Generation 4 Ipod?

Hi,

I hope someone out there will be able to help me with my Apple Mac and getting an IPOD.

I have an Apple Mac computer that runs on Mac OSX 10.2.8. On this I have Itunes 6 and IPhoto 2.

I had a first generation IPod that is now completely dead. I think it's not feasible to get it repaired. I need to get a replacement IPOD that is compatible with my computer and software.

It looks like the latest second hand Ipod that I can get, that will work with my computer, is a 4th Generation IPOD. I'm left with trying to get a good second hand one from Ebay. The thing I'm not sure about is the Iphoto bit - it seems the 4th generation one needs IPhoto 4 and I've got an older version. Will I still be able to store photos on it from a Iphoto 2 version?

If anyone can help or has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Paulina.

  • Hi, does anyone know if I can use a 4th Gen Ipod using IPhoto 2 instead of Iphoto 4 (before I get one from bay)?

    Thanks,

    Paulina.

No. It has to be iPhoto 4 or above.

    Look here for confirmation.

I really would recommend upgrading to Tiger and iLife 07 (in a few weeks obviously). Tiger & Panther are a massive leap over Jaguar, and they both open the door to the newer iPods.

iLife 06 is £28 and Panther is £50 - although that seems high :o

You wont be able to view photos on a 4th gen ipod as it's the monochrome model. You need an ipod with colour screen to view photos. You'll still be able to store photos as data on it however.
  • Hi,

Thanks for your replies NickyGoat and Gorilla. Sorry - my 'thanks' button isn't working.

I'm not very techie, and was hoping to leave my computer as it is, until is dies on me, as I'm fairly happy with what I've got. I still remember the tears I shed last time I upgraded to 10.2.8! I'll go for the 4th Gen Ipod that hasn't got the photo part - this will be a cheaper replacement until my computer goes Kaboommm!!

    Cheers.

    Paulina.
