how to burn a dvd disc?

What am i doing wrong got jvc hard disc cam corder down loaded video but what do i need to make a dvd, the programme Power Producer came with it states it easy but does not recognize the video files which are Mov, window media player doesnt do it should i be doing something else? i thought it would be a matter of putting a dvd into my laptop and burning a disc off but no further forward from xmas.
my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!

Nero has a great utility to convert just about any format into DVD. I've used many different software packages for conversion in the past, but only Nero has worked perfectly every time, and the quality is great. I then use TMPGENC DVD Author to edit and produce menus, (Nero can produce menus, but I prefer TDA).
