Question for experienced sellers

Hi guys, just after some opinions really.

I recently sold a car CD player on ebay. It was my DH's and was checked before selling - working perfectly (if it wasn't, we either would not have put it on ebay or would have listed it as broken).

I have today received an email from the buyer saying it is not working - they have got their mechanic to try as well but no joy. I am unsure what to reply - do I offer a full refund? It was definately working when we sent it.

A similar thing happened the very first time I sold on ebay - my DH's motorbike. The buyer contacted us to say it wasn't working and could he have a partial refund of £100 ....my DH, who runs a garage, said he would be more than happy to have a look at it....and funnily enough the bike was suddenly working perfectly and we didn't hear from the buyer again!

Obviously I have no reason to suspect the current buyer is trying it on as well...but once bitten and all that!

Any opinions gratefully received.

Tell them to send it back and then you will refund.

If they open a paypal dispute, that is what Paypal will advise them to do. Not sure what the situation would be if they send it back and they have in fact broken it though?

Yes offer a full refund on safe return to you, if they open a dispute with ebay or paypal then that is what they will be told to do anyway. Best to keep them onside.

Did you put serial # on the listing? If not, you'll likely receive their borked CD player back.

You could try to head off a scam by saying return for a refund once you've checked the hidden security marking.

I've got into trouble saying this, but look at their house in Google street-maps to see the type of place they live and judge their character.
