ASDA give you a £2 gift card if they put something through at the wrong price, but you only get it once in each shop ( or should I say transaction)

Asda's policy quite clearly states a £2 gift for each item you are overcharged on, although staff don't seem to be aware of this.

What happens if I am overcharged?
If you have been overcharged or undercharged in any of our stores we will gladly refund the difference (if you have been overcharged) and give you a £2 Gift voucher for each product you have been mischarged for.

And the moral of the story is - always check the receipt. I'm forever being overcharged in sainsburys.

Without fail there is always a roll of the eyes when I mention it to customer services and request a refund. I wouldn't have to trouble you if I hadn't been overcharged in the first place, now would I? :)

I'd describe the vibe as 'polite but surprised', as if they're used to a better class of customer. One that won't quibble for the sake of 50p...

Hey, if my money's good enough when you're overcharging me...
  • We too are regularly overcharged at Sainsbury's. I like their atmosphere better than Tesco, but it is SO annoying to always have to check every little item on the receipt on the way out. Our record - Two cases of Boddington's marked as 2 for £20, scanned at £14 each. I caught it in time, but what about the people who never catch it or only see it after they've made it home, miles away? To me it seems sloppy at best, deceitful at worst and reveals Sainsbury's attitude towards its customers. We have never once been overcharged at Tesco or Asda.

Last time I shopped at Sainsburys was because they sent me a £12 off a £60 shop, cashier messed up and when I checked with my bank I had been charged twice once with the discount off and once with no dicount. So I was charged around £140 for about a £60 shop, had terrible trouble with them sorting it out they said they didn't know how to check if my card had gone through twice. This was worrying as it was supposedly the cash office supervisor I was talking to, funnily enough in a previous job I worked in a supermarket office so I was able to tell her where to find the info.:rotfl:
Eventually it was sorted out, but I won't shop there again. Not keen on choice of products or customer service.

I don't want to put a dampner on this but are you sure that you did not buy DVD cases as opposed to DVD discs? What does it say on the box?

well if it isnt then the box is EXTREMELY misleading

    it says 4.7gb/120min
    1x-16 dvd-r recordable-enregistrable (would not want record a jewel case  )

then at the back it says

    Caution Please read before using
This disc is a new standard - high speed media - in comformity with DVD-R for General Version 2.1 speed DVD-R Revison 6.0. Always chech if your
device is compatible as using this disc on some drives.......

the box is very similar to this one apart that it has a logo saying that they are Ink-jet Printable

something went seriously wrong here I am just so annoyed that now I have to go and explain this long story which I had not bargained for!!
  • I went into co-op just before closing yesterday to see if there was any bargains reduced. Only picked up a bag of potatoes reduced to 69p. Took them to the checkout, paid, then went to pack them in a carrier and noticed they were all rotten. Said to the cashier Ive changed my mind, I dont want them as theyre rotten can I get my money back. He called the manager over to do a refund, and he gave me twice as much back, so gave me £1.38 back, said that was the policy. Couldnt be bothered to go all the way back down the other end of the shop to get another bag, so just walked out. Double my money in about 5 mins :j

I know it was only 69p profit, but just wondered if this policy applied to everything, thats out of date and unsaleable? perhaps find sumthing thats gone off, take it to the checkout, then point out its gone off, and get double the money back.

I hadnt even left the shop and found the item uneatable, literally handed over the money and got it straight back x 2 at the checkout. Ive never heard of this sorta policy before, has anyone else had this?

Very unlikely that they'd ask people to do that in case they told the media.

It would be very easy to them to do something like never do anything about cashiers scanning the barcode that charge more but warn them they'll get in trouble if they void and rescan items (ie. scan the correct barcode). So the cashier is indirectly encouraged to overcharge customers but leave themselves as the scapegoat.

Not saying S do this but I think a lot of companies do things like this.
    Hi there
I work in Sainsbury's and as already said we are certainly not told to ignore discounted stickers, however we don't always have time to check every item has gone through at the correct price and more often than not the discounted stickers don't scan anyway. Sainsbury's are always telling us that its better for the customer if this is corrected at check out rather than them having to go to CS, so nothing is deliberate, please spare a thought for the cashier and don't be thinking everyone is out to get you. And yes we are supposed to scan 17-20 items per minute so mistakes can happen.

I live right by a Sainsburys and would only go there for emergency items as I have been overcharged on so many occasions. Years ago I wrote to the store and complained and eventually contacted trading standards. Just gave them up as a bad job in the end. When I do go in there, I check my receipt before I leave the store and they still overcharge me or make some error on nearly every occasion.

I've never been erroneously UNDER-charged in Sainsburys. Just sayin'...
