Urgent help re. delivery of a parcel

Options
Hi,

I ordered some stock and it was due to be sent to my home adress today. I received an email from the courier to say it had been delivered and signed by (surname given). Well as this was not me, I phoned the company who had delivered it.

they phoned back to say they had spoken to the courier company and they had made a mistake and was on their way back to rectify it.

Half hour later and the courier guy rang me to tell me where he had dropped it off which was a business about 1 mile from my address. he asked if I could go and pick it up and I said No. He said he would come back tomorrow.

2 mins later a guy from the business phones to say they have opened a parcel and realised that it is not for them and found my details inside.

Anyway I could not wait so I went to the business. On arrival I met a very irrate manager. When I looked at the box, it was open and half the contents missing. I said that I was not going to take it and the courier guy could come and pick it up so that when they try to redeliver to me, I could decline delivery and get my money back.

The Manager said that her staff shouldn't have signed for it and she was leaving it outside of her business premises as it was nothing to do with her.

I argued that by signing, she was now the owner and would have to hold it. She just laughed.

I have left it there. I do not want to pick it up as it has been signed for and I do not want to accept the package.

What do you think?

well as the courier company have admitted it wasn't delivered to you I wouldn't worry, I would how ever call the company you ordered it from and explain about it. I wouldn't mention you have to been to the other business just the fact the courier have delivered it to the wrong people so they are also aware of it when it comes to you rejecting it (again don't mention that).

Are you going to reject solely on the fact bits are missing?? If so I wouldn't personally reject but I would put a note that items are missing/packaging damaged then phone the company again you ordered it from to tell them what is missing. I would also ask for a refund on P&P if you paid for next day.

Thank you for your REALLY quick reply :T

There are 2 items missing and 1 has ripped packaging.

The only problem I have is that the business owner is refusing to keep it until tomorrow. If she puts it outside, I can guarentee that it will not be there tomorrow.

So do I take it, in which case it has been signed and I will have problems with the damaged/missing stock

Or do I let it go and reclaim for the lost package?

On that basis I wouldn't reject the order but I would be voicing my concerns to the company you ordered it from.

call the company you bought it from and see what they say. They may compensate you for taking it now rather than losing all the stock and having to replace the whole lot.

Technically though its not your problem you didn't receive/sign for it, depends if you have a good relationship with the supplier. If it was my supplier who I use regularly I would get it as I know they would replace what ever was damaged/missing. In reality the courier company are still responsible for it and liable.

Also bear in mind you'll have to wait around again for another delivery, so time has to be counted into the equation
