Not allowed to access my electricity meter, is this right?

They could stop you on health and safety grounds due to how many meters are within the cuboard, the councils do this also in some high rise.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Right this is starting to annoy me now. I've been waiting days now for the handyman from the management company to come out and read the electricity meter. My readings are due for nPower, my bill is being generated. They should have came yesterday to read it but no. Now the management company are saying Monday. We demanded the code for the cupboard on the phone but they won't budge.
The code is only there to stop people storing items in the cupboard!
This is only going to get more annoying as we are currently switching to EDF so will need another meter reading soon for my closing reading.0 -
Be there when he reads it and try and record the code (phone video camera).IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

What type of lock is it, if a standard combination padlock then start at 0000 and work your way up 1 at a time0

Hi Purplepow, I dont blame you for getting annoyed, I get the same thing quite a lot where I have to traipse to the management office to get a code for the meter room. Is it a fire door to the meter room which has got to be kept shut ? ( but possibly not locked ) Thats the usual excuse for stopping access. I have never had a key or code refused by management so I find it a bit odd as theres a cost to them to keep coming to unlock every time, There could be half a dozen different suppliers in one cupboard all wanting readings at different times. do your best to get other flats involved also0

I suggest going to the management company pretending to be a meter reader.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Personally, I would buy a crowbar, and force entry. But thats just me. You do have a right to have access to the meter. Plus with an emergency situation, such as if you could smell gas ?.....wouldnt the management agency want you to be able to turn the supply off?...instead of it going boom!?
I do like the suggestion, to start at 0000, and work the code all the way up. time consuming, but effective.0 -
This is why I will always check out the utility meters (as well as other things of course) before renting or buying a house.0

Have a close look at the buttons, some may be more worn than others and give you some idea of the digits of the numberThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0
