Connecting DVD recorder to non-terrestrial system

Hi friends !
Sorry if I am repeating similar to what has already been posted, but I started a new thread as I have tried most other things already mentioned.

Okay.I live in the country and don't get terrestrial tv reception.I have sky plus and watch all channels through it.It seems to come in though my ext1 on my telly.I am trying to set up a dvd recorder to go via my telly and sky box.I put the leads everywhere they were supposed to go according the the instructions but when I went to set up the dvd autosearch thing ( sorry to be so technical) it said there was no signal being received and to check my aerial. The DVD seems to be coming through the ext2 and I don't know how to marry the two, if indeed that what needs done.

I have checked and rechecked and even did that usual failsafe trick of switching off at the plug but the message is still the same.

If anyone can point me in the right direction in as easy language as possible, I would be eternally grateful.

Many thanks in advance and all the best when it comes to all !

Lorna

It should be connected like this.

Sky+ TV out to DVDR AV2
    DVDR AV1 to TV AV1

When you record from Sky+ select input AV2 on your DVDR.

There is no point in doing the autosearch as this looks for a signal coming from your terrestial aerial which you have not got. The only problem with not having an aerial is that you will only be able to record whatever channel your Sky+ box is on.

Thanks for your reply Jem I appreciate it. I must have another problem also,as I can't even play a DVD. It tells me I have no video input when I do.

What model of DVDR do you have? Does it have a hard drive in it?

Yes just connect it the way I mentioned above. Then choose the Copy function to record them from Sky+ to DVDR. You won't be able to watch anything else whilst you do this as Sky+ only has one decoder. People often dump things over during the night.

it is a goodmans gdvd 300r recorder without a hard drive. We really only wanted it to make copies of things we had recorded on sky + to free up the memory. It seemed like a good idea at the time .... :)
    Thanks for helping.

So if you put in a pre-recorded DVD it doesn't play automatically?

"No video input" suggests it's looking for a signal from RF which of course you don't have. I would have thought that playing a DVD(which is video output) would override this but perhaps not.

Make sure your DVDR is on AV2(or Line 2) so it doesn't look for an RF signal. Then try to play your DVD.
