Hello,
Where do i start ! I've been unemployed due to loosing my job in february after an argument with the manager there ! I've been off since with Anxiety disorder problems, Currently undergoing counseling but will probably be prescribed a course of medication by the end of the month.
Obviously i need to find a job because i am now out of money, Into 2 unarranged overdrafts with my banks, Defaulted on various credit agreements, And don't have enough to pay my phone bill on thursday this week. I have no money to eat, I am basically sinking. I can't sign onto Jobseekers allowance due to suspicious circumstances as to why my previous job ended.
How do i cover for such a long gap of unemployment ? And what do i do about references as i had a disagreement with the ex manager because i had 2 days off with bronchitis (Phoned in both mornings).
I seriously can't see a way out of this.
Thanks.

Did you resign? Have you tried to sign on?0

Why can't you sign on? I understand there may be a period where you can't claim due to being sacked/leaving but that point has well past.
As for references, is there not someone there who you got on with that you could talk to about getting a reference?Per Mare Per Terram0 -

Because they have put it down to me leaving my old job because i wanted to. So i can't sign on for 26 weeks (Fair enough, Good to see they are clamping down on that, After all it was my own fault).' You only live once ! Don't live to regret the past, But to enjoy the future '

So that's what? A month away at most.
Why don't you look at agency temp jobs? I've been offered jobs for 2 hours from when they rang me up, they don't tend to bother that much about references. Get a couple of months of that under your belt and use them for references.Per Mare Per Terram0 -

Same happened with me. I was off sick when I resigned, called the agency and got offered a position before checking my references.
I started on the Monday, and avoided the agencies calls for a few days, just in case they had got the bad reference back. Luckily it turned out OK, and I have since been offered permanent jobs elsewhere.
The OPs problem is going to be explaining the last 6 months. Not sure why he didn't go the agency route immediately after resigning.0 -
Have you actually signed on, and been going to the meetings?
It's my understanding that the sanction starts from when you sign on, not when you leave the job, so if you aren't signing on they might not have counted these months. In that case, sign on asap, so you are on your way to getting the money.
All the best x0 -
Hi OP
Can I also suggest you post on the Debt-Free Wannabe board - there are some great people on there who can help you tackle your overdrafts and your debts, as well as offer advice on benefits and getting back to work. That - along with this thread - should really help.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -

The up to 26 week sanction starts from when you left your job. I resigned from my job on the 6th Aug last year and signed on in Feb this year (exactly 26 weeks after resigning), as it was already 26 weeks since I left my job voluntarily my claim wasn't even suspended whilst it was checked
Good luck OP0
