To sell or not to sell!!

Im after some advice..
we brought a freelander six months ago for a lot of money, since our income has sufferedas late, we are thinking that we should sell it, its not petrol friendly and the tax and insurance is very high, we now see the error of our ways, we went to carcraft were we brought it and they offered us four grand less for it, leaving it impossible to really buy another family car, and annoyed we were so ripped of by them..
we now dont know what to do.. are the running costs going to cost us more then payin out for a new one, we also do not want to get anymore credit if we can help it, our main objective is to save some money.. plaese help if you can..
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!:j

    Sell it and get rid of it before it goes wrong, gearboxes are known to go in the first 3k miles then again at 20k miles, try and get a better deal or sell it privately

    Carcraft are called Carcraft because they are crafy with their car sales tactics.

    They make sales by saying things that are worthless or using tactics that confuse the consumers.

    Things to watch out for:

    1) Friends and Family discount. Cars are marked up a VERY HIGH amount at CarCraft. Their tactics are to sell cars via Friends and Family discount which actually means referable to everyone you can think of. The referrer always gets £250+ commission for every referral. Because anyone buying a car through a friend or family thinks that that friend or family is looking out for them, it makes sales easier.

    2) CarCraft boast having a longer warranty for second hand cars than anyone else. I believe its 6 months than 3 months. However, look closely at the warranty and its worthless. Its up to the value of £300 or something which once they add in a few hours labour checking your car is worthless as is their extended warranties. Compared to the warranties of local garages, CarCraft warranties really need to be given some thought.

    3) They will prey on the weak when it comes to mathematics. If you cannot say afford £5000, they will say that they will give you an interest free loan for 5 years if you pay X much more. So much for interest free as X will equate to around 20% of the loan.

    4) Our local CarCraft has a dodgy salesman inside it who claims that he knows the boss of Tescos. He also claims that he used to be an Independent Financial Advisor (IFA). CarCraft use him to try and save you money on your insurance. How he does this is by logging onto the Tesco's website and always putting in 5 years or more No Claims Bonus. He says that if you are a new driver then logically you cannot have crashed your car in the last 5 years and that it was a loophole in the law. However, anyone listening to this person should really assess whether CarCraft will be there is Tesco's don't pay out when an accident occurs on the grounds that you did not provide accurate details when applying for insurance.

    In essense, CarCraft are a bunch of cowboys (especially the outfit in Leeds).

  • Thanks for all your advice!!
    now i know we were foolish to buy from them! we really laid into them today, its funny they are so nice to you when you walk in and it soon turned round by the time we left!
    the internet price saving is a con as well, they claim to want to save you two grand if you print of something of the internet, these big places just play mind games with you!!!!!!!
    i have tryed a couple little places to put not offering much either??
  • Perhaps they think that because they can con you into buying a car from them that you deserve a shoddy car for your ignorance?

    The problem is that whatever you paid for the car, it's going to be a lot more than the car is worth.

    That's because:

    a. it's come through Carcraft and it's unlikely that their price was competitive;
    b. it's six months older with an extra owner behind it and a few thousand extra miles;
    c. any dealer who buys it will have to sell it on to make a profit.

    Have you considered getting the car fixed and then suing them using your statutory rights - which they cannot take away from you regardless of any limitations on their warranty?

    Out of curiosity, what do the numbers look like? Price paid, best offer price for the car, amount outstanding on the loan, monthly payment/length of time, etc.?
