On the taskbar on the right hand side I have 2 computer icons with a red x through them, these get on my nerves and I want to get rid of them. I have tried all sorts to stop them appearing, but they still appear.
I know they are local area connections (I have one that says local area connection 3) and when I hover the mouse over them, this pops up "A network cable is unplugged" I dont have a network or intend to have one.
What are these icons for and how do I get rid of them....they just annoy me. I like my pc the way I want it and these have to go.
Cheers

Right click on the icon, Open network connections, then right click on the connections you don't want and left click disable.0

Disabling will not remove the icon. Highlight the network adaptor in Network connections and click on Change Settings of this connection. Then uncheck the boxes in the settings. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
It does but either way will work.

espresso....I have unticked both boxes at the bottom after clicking on change settings of this connection. I did a restart but they still appear on my taskbar.
Any other ideas ?0 -
Karlos. Try my suggestion. Just remember to re-enable it if you want to use it.0

tufty...I have tried this but it wont let me do it...a box pops up with "It is not possible to disable this connection at this time. This connection may be using one or more prptocols that do not support plug and play, or it may have been initiated by another user or system account"
I am the only user on my computer I have no other members.0 -
What operating system are you using? XP? Is the user account a local administrator?
What is showing up for the device properties for this connections network properties? You could try disabling it from within Device Manager.0 -
Are you using the administrators account? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
