Older PC suddenly unable to get Internet

Hi,

We recently purchased a new PC and at the same time upgraded our Virgin Broadband from 10MB to 30MB in order to have the Virgin Super Hub to provide wireless internet access Son and Daughter to use etc as the new PC doesnt have wireless internet facility (I discovered after I'd ordered it:o).

However, prior to installing the new Super Hub, our old PC, which we were still dependent on, suddenly couldnt connect to the internet through the old modem?

I went thru a VM customer service person (twice), who was extremely helpful :T but the problem could not be solved but seemed all connections were working OK as far as VM were concerned).

I thought it might be something to do with the BBand upgrade so installed it and had it set up replacing the old modem/router but sadly the old PC is still unable to connect. The new PC, however, can (via Ethernet cable) as can our two youngsters wirelessly!

I hv since being trying all sorts of things (cleaning the PC up, restoring to different date and also calling VM again today, but alas still no internet connection :( on the old PC.

VMedia are certain it's something to do with our old PC so hope someone can help as I really need to be able to get connected to sort things out before changing everything over to the new PC?

I've done a Hijack This log (See below) using the program I hv installed on it though it's no doubt out of date, but maybe it might offer some clues as to whats stopping the PC connecting to the internet? (Can't update or use some other programs due to lack of internet connection)

Have you thought about fitting a Wireless card to the PC? Cost between £5 and £15 dependent on type.

Connect the old PC via ethernet and then post the contents of the IPConfig.

As to your other problem...it's a a bit of a jumble. Can hardly make sense of your post.

Are you writing the the OLD PC cannot connect to the NEW modem via Ethernet?

Yes, I'm now using our new PC which works fine connected to the Super Hub with a Ethernet Cable, but our old PC, cannot connect no matter what I try (Also using ethernet cable as we have always used before).
Apologies if this is a bit jumbled but I wanted to explain the whole situation and reason for the changes and thought there might be a link getting the upgraded 30MB Broadbands etc Just seemed a bit of a coincidence that the 'old' PC we were still using should suddenly develop this problem?

It something I might look into at a later stage but at the moment having the new Super Hub allows our kids to access wirelessly directly thru it so we no longer have to have our new PC on which we used to have to do with the old set up.
As I say, the problem we have is connecting the old PC (using an ethernet cable) directly into the new super hub. Everything else works and connects fine through the hub.

When it's connected via ethernet, on the old PC go into Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections and make sure it's set to never dial a connection and that the top box is empty..

As you were using a modem (it's been a fair few years since i've used a modem so doing it from memory), it may be set to dial the connection rather than use the LAN

    Ethernet adapter local area connection
    Connection-Specific DNS Suffix
    IP Address: 192.168.0.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Is this enough to go on? there was the same info for Wireless Network except the end of the IP address had 1 instead of 2.

Yes, that seems to be set OK.

That looks OK. What's the IP address of your new Virgin hub? 192.168.0.1 is a common router IP so it may be conflicting.
