Travelling to Heathrow Terminal 4

This might be known by many, but hopefully will be of help to someone.
I've checked with National Express, and the price to Terminal 4 from Edinburgh is expensive (over £40 each way for me), so last time I travelled National Express into London and took the train out. Yesterday by mistake I got a price for Terminals 1&2 from Edinburgh, and it's much cheaper (just over £20 each way on average for me). I don't know why it's cheaper.
I thought there must be some connections between Terminals 1&2 and 4, and there is a free rail and bus connection! So I'm taking the National Express coach to Terminals 1&2 then using the free transfer to Terminal 4.

As you are so desperate to save money why don't you consider Megabus to London then Tube to Heathrow or a Bargain Berth on the Caledonian Sleeper or even a journey with East Coast

As for transport within Heathrow - have a look at the Heathrow Airport website which has copious information on travel between terminals

BTW there is no Terminal 2 at Heathrow
  • Did the trip and the connections worked out fine. Yes there is now no Terminal 2 at Heathrow, but there was on the National Express website. Rail is often expensive but I'll check that and megabus next time.
Alan - odd that you say 'desperate' - I thought this site was all about sharing money saving tips as you and I have done? Thanks for the suggestions.

It's cheaper because of the routing - for T1/3 they can route you via Victoria, and Edinburgh to Victoria is a busy route so cheaper fares.

But there is no service from Victoria to T4 - so they route you via Birmingham or wherever where you join an expensive airport only service

Thanks DZ. I found the free transfers between T1/T3 and T4 quick and easy, as well as free, so for any future travel to Heathrow I'll be happy to go to whichever terminal is cheapest to get to.
