Hammonds Bedroom Sales Technique

Had Hammonds round to design and quote for our fitted bedroom at the weekend. We like the quality of their units (my mum had a Hammonds bedroom fitted 5-6 years ago) and they supposedly aren't as pushy as [STRIKE]Sharks[/STRIKE] Sharps.

We agreed on a design and the designer worked out the initial, catalogue price for all the elements. Came to a bit over £7k. She then took off all their current "special offer" discounts (which she freely told us are available all year round, though we'd guessed as much) and it came to £5,250. She spent a few minutes trying to sell it at this price and then said she could do a bit better. Spent a while playing with her calculator before announcing that she could knock £450 off, taking it down to £4,800. She was then very pushy, trying to get us to sign up then and there at this 'special' price. After about 20 minutes she accepted our "no, we need to think about it" and left.

She phoned last night to see if we had decided and I said we are still considering it. She said she'd see what else she could do on the price and called back a couple of hours later to say that her manager had agreed to doing it for £3,900.

So, £900 off just like that! I expected her to drop a few hundred but £900 in one go just makes the initial prices seem like a blatant attempt to rip us off.

I said we would think about it (which we are, or at least were) and call her this week with a yes/no. I get a text message (!) today saying "I don't mean to chase but my boss is wondering if you want to go ahead". Yes love, that's chasing - what else would you call it?

Does anyone else find themselves feeling completely put off a company by sales techniques such as this? And sending a text message about a £4k purchase!

We now have a smaller (regional rather than national) company coming round to design/quote this weekend and the people there that I have spoken to so far seem a lot nicer, touch wood.

I wouldn't let John Barrowman and his team install a fitted bedroom. :)

Why not? If the cupboards are a lot bigger on the inside than they look from the outside, that can't be a bad thing.
