Thought we'd celebrate the New Year by buying a new vacuum!!!
Have reserved the VAX V092TTEVE 1800 from Currys to collect tomorrow - £69.99 (reduced from £99.99) :T
My only preferences are bagless and as effective as possible for as little effort as possible!
With 3 dogs this seemed like a good buy.... Laminate flooring downstairs and new carpets upstairs (no dog zone!)
Anyone beat this?

We had a quick look into Comet before collecting the reserved vacuum from Currys and found a Hoover cylinder vacuum 2000 watts for £59.:T
We let Currys down gently!;)0 -
I have bought 2 different kinds of Vax within 3 years (cannot remember model names) 1 was a bagged cylinder, silver and the other a bagless cylinder, orange.
IMO, they are cheap flimsy parts.
Orange one - I have contacted Vax CS and have had 2 replacements and it happened again and I threw it in the bin.
CS very good though. Probably the best I've ever had in my life.
Silver one - Stick (pole) snapped, suction motor stopped, didn't bother with CS...threw it in the bin.
Vax.....never again0 -
In vacuums, I have been told you should be looking at the Air Watts spec. Most places don't mention this.
EG. a 2200W vacuum might have 350 Air Watts but a 2000W vacuum might have 450 Air Watts.
I would go with the 450 Air Watt (2000W) machine
Also look at cord length which even the big named vacuums have poor length.
And finally the rest like accessories and warranty.0 -

I must admit, the Vax is a second vac for upstairs as we have a Dyson and wanted a spare to save me lugging it up and down with two kids under 2 trying to hang onto it...! Plus the Dyson doesn't seem to pick up like it used to and it'd cost a small fortune for a service, then the parts it'd probably need. Expecting it to conk out when there's no sales on (despite fact it's only 4 years old!).
The Vax does feel quite flimsy compared to the Dyson, and I was a bit disappointed at first - but to my horror when I tried it on the room carpet, it had LOADS of fluff and crap in it that the Dyson obviously hadn't picked up (I do vac quite often, honest!).
I would have liked a posher one, but £50 was just about our limit budget wise as we've so many other things we need to spend our pennies on at the monone of which are remotely exciting, unfortunately. Good to know the Customer Services are ok for Vax, finger's crossed I won't need to find out but ya never know!

Just be aware that a number of European companies ( predominantly German) used to have ( maybe still have??) a gentlemens agreement that they can increase the number of actual air watts by 15%. This harks back to the companies trying to keep Dyson in court by trying to break his patent. Dyson queried the air watts quoted by the other companies and the gentlemens agreement came to light.
So - to be on the safe side - take off circa 15% of air watts to get the true power.

Ok, I've tried to like it as much as I did my Dyson before it went funny...but you're right, the Vax IS crap.
It won't pick up bits of cotton and the brushbar on the attachment stops spinning as soon as it hits whatever it is you're cleaning  . It's hard to push along the floor as the wheels seem to be decorative purposes only and won't move very well, and doesn't clean up to the edges of the carpet, although I know that this is an extra on a lot of them. But picking up stuff would be useful!!
Not a very good bargain, back to Argos and square one for us!! It's hindering my nesting.Plus it means OH has to get back in the loft for the box and one of us has to lug it back. Sigh. That'll teach me to be a tight Yorkshire lass and jump too quickly at owt too cheap....:o
