RBS Account 3 strikes rule

Hi,

I read on this forum that RBS had a 3 strike rule when it comes to payment refused. Like if they have to refuse a payment for insufficient funds, they were closing the account.

1. Is it true?
2. Most important question: If this is true, is it just for DD and SO or does it also includes card payment (when you're trying to buy something with your card and your order is declined because there's not enough money on your account)?

thank you very much.

I've not heard of this rule with RBS. Certainly the co-op has such a rule with direct debits, I'm pretty certain it doesn't apply to retail transactions using a card.

Yes HSBC also do this on their basic account. They aren't so strict on their full account but will downgrade a full account to a basic account if it is used improperly then close the resulting basic account if still used improperly.

    Rightly so.

RBS group changed their account range in early July I think it was. The changes to the basic accounts are particularly worth being warned about. No access to non-RBS ATMs for new basic account holders.

Declined card transactions won't count towards a strike.

An approved transaction that takes you overdrawn and incurrs a paid referral fee, will.

The Select account is the new name for the current account. Changed from the 4th July I believe. RBS and Natwest are now offering the same account range
