Charging new price for replacement

Hi there
I ordered a pair of trainers from very.co.uk for £25 way back in April that were finally delivered about 2 weeks ago.
Whilst it is my usual size, they are on the small side so I called this morning and asked if I could return them so they could be replaced by the next size up.
The lady I spoke to said this was OK but as the price of the trainers was now £70 I would have to order the new pair for £70 and return the ones I have that are too small and get a refund of £25. Not what I had in mind!
Seeing as I bought them for £25 I assumed that I could therefore get them replaced without having to fork out more money simply as they have increased in price since.
I wondered if anyone knows what my rights are in this situation?
Many thanks
Phil

Your rights are to return the pair you bought for a refund. There's no onus on them to sell you the other pair at the lower price.0

Actually their rights may not even be that given the trainers were delivered 2 weeks ago and they have only called today to enquire about a exchange. Under DSR's you'd need to inform them within 7 working days.
After that, technically you have no rights for a change of mind/not the correct size. The only argument the OP could make would be if they usually buy that particular brand/style/etc and there is a significant size difference. Sizes do vary brand to brand and style to style though. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
They're offering you a refund of the price you paid, so the shop have done their bit.
If you weren't sure of your size, then you in theory could have ordered both sizes at £25, then returned the wrong size for a refund of £25. The offer no longer exists, and as they are not faulty, then no replacement is necessary.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Sorry, I was going by the particular store's policy, which in this case gives a longer term than the DSRs.0
