picture hook holes

Options
How do you match paint up when you didn't paint the room yourself?

Basically moved into a new place and don't want pictures on some walls that the other owner did.

We don't want to repaint the room, but it looks horrid with picture hook holes in the wall. Any suggestions to what we can do?

    Thats a difficult one Diamond.

We often have this situation, as we move from rented accomodation to rented accomodation every few years or so.

I hate to say it, but it bugs me so much that I always end up painting because the marks infuriate me.

All I could suggest is to fill in any holes left by the hooks as carefully as you can - a wallpaper type scraper is good for getting a flat even fill and scraping of excess polyfilla - then get a tester as approximate to the colour as you can, and using either a paintbrush, or a peice of sponge with a very small amount of paint on it dab over ONLY the marked areas.

If you do this carefully you may or may not still be able to see where you have painted with a slightly different colour, but it will be kept to an absoloute minimum, and be less annoying than a big splodge.

Hopefully when you stand back you won't even be able to tell.

    It does happen sometimes!

    Good luck.

If you can scrape some of the paint off the wall, you might have to take a bit of the plaster with it, then fill-in later.

Take it to a Dulux center and they can scan the sample and mix paint to match, also i think B&Q do this also.

fill in the holes, if the walls are emulsion you might be able to wet a piece of wall so that the colour comes off and wipe this over the filler.
  • Thanks so much, 3 great suggestions, definately worth trying everyone to find out which will work, hopefully one does...
