Hi everyone. I am wanting to put some old cassettes on to disc and have the cable and can plug it into my pc. I am looking for some software to help clean up the sound and remove the hiss. Can anyone recommend any ??

There is a free program called Audacity. I've downloaded it but not used it yet0

The audio editor in Nero has various noise reduction features. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Hi, I was thinking of doing exactly the same thing althought i am not at all IT, and have no idea of how to get started. What sort of cable/ stuff is it that i would need? I have looked at the link with how to set it all up and realise that i should not connect up the speakers to the PC and that i should download Audacity. Just wanted some or rather alot of help getting started with this. We have got lots of cassettes and Records which i would love to hear again on CD. Thanks demented

If you have a lot of tapes and are willing to pay I'd highly recommend Magix Audio Cleaning Lab (Deluxe version needed for unlimited MP3 buring). You can often find cheaper older version on Amazon.
I used it a while back to put old tapes onto the PC. It has a huge number of effects and cleaning ablities for old tapes/records.
For just a few tapes then I think Audacity works very well.0 -
Ooh Thanks Sra. I will take a look on Amazon. I will probably need some more help if that's ok. I am a complete novice on IT. Anyway thanks for the tip.
I will let you know how i get on.

Hello and Happy New year.
I have looked on Amazon and there is a Magix Audio cleaning Lab 11 delux. Going for £20.99. I have got windows xp but sad as it is, I don't know if i have a sound card. I do listen to music and now Radio on the pc, so i suppose that i must have one. Sad arn't I. Do you think that the one on Amazon would be right for me? Not sure at all which version is the one to have. Thanks demented20p savers club
