    Could you not accept the £400 less on the basis it will be paid within 6 months?

    Get it all in writing, signed and witnessed so you have hard evidence if it came to a dispute and went to court..

    I know it adds alot of risk and possible unnecessary hassle but atleast this way you don't have to wait another 4 weeks to re-sell it and potentially reduce its value when as another member said the new reg comes out...

    Bite the bullet, tell them you like them so meet them halfway, and drop the price by £200 - it will mean the car is off your hands (depreciating and waiting for the next round of price drops as it ages), and the nice couple have a car and can take you for coffee or whatever to say thanks. Look at it this way, a dealer would probably be offering you a grand less, so you're still £800 up...! Personally I'd seriously consider that as life is better without stress.
