filling and re-drilling in same hole

Options
so im putting up a second baby gate and got a couple of holes too big and the screws are just being pulled out after a few days.. i need to fill in the holes and start over.. but re-drilling new holes in almost exactly the same place...

what's the best way to fill in the holes (in plaster) so i can then re-drill into them and a screw and plug and then baby gate will hold?

ive heard mention of hammering bits of wood into the holes but is that a good idea and should i then seal the gaps and with what? wood glue or..?

any advice greatly appreciated!

Have you tried just sticking filler into the hole around the screws? That should hold it into place.

Fill the "too big" holes with small pieces of wood (long matches are ideal - minus the heads !!), then screw into that.

Or screw a baton on to the wall first.

There is a product by Fischer but I forgot whats it called. Basically its a circular piece of powdered cloth (same stuff that they use when you have a broken arm to cover it). You get it wet then using the correct rawlplug push it into the hole, wait for it to hardener then insert screw.

Sorry brain not working correctly, so might not make sense.

Which is the correct way to do this job. One batten big enough to take all the stairgate fittings.

As ever with stairgates, the 7th symbol refers to the point of origin.

That made me laugh but I think the rest of the board may be confused
