Does purchasing a course have the same rights as purchasing an item?

Hi all

just after some quick advice if poss?
I purchased a course, I was having trouble getting work as current climate etc.... So I thought I would retrain, I borrowed money from a friend and started a at home course.
The company says to study at your convience etc... Well I studied and sent work off and had to cancel my paypal money just to get a reply and my marked work back. Eventually they suddenly marked some and sent some back. I told them approx 4 wks ago that I had a job offer and I needed all my work done by the end of this month with my certificate, again still waiting! Now the company who offeredthe job have let it go as I have taken so long. I will re phrase, the study course people have taken so long!
I have sent so many emails last week and more today to get a response and nothing.
To cut this short, I'm sure you get the gist of what I'm saying.... Can I ask for a refund or part of?????
They are not fulfilling their agreement, I can't get anyone to reply, my work is now stuck there, they've had all my money, I've lost faith in them to be honest.
Do I have rights fo anything???????

If it is as sambacus nigra says then you might be able to get your money back but it might be a fight, maybe search the forums for it.

It's supposed to be an academy etc... But I can't get anything from them. I can cancel paypal payments but I want to know if I'm legally allowed to do it???? I just don't seem to have any choice.

Depending on the institution, you should also check your agreement with the academy. They should specify the turnaround time for marking etc. If they haven't met those service levels, you should have recourse to put in a grievance or formal complaint. However, if they have returned work and done the marking in the time specified by them (even though it didn't suit your timetable with the job), you may not have any recourse at all.

Sorry this has happened to you, though. I had terrible problems with ICS and lack of communication last year, and it's such a pain when no-one will talk to you to even tell you what's going on!

Thanks, they didn't specify a time only that as soon as I send it, it gets marked they send back and done. I told the woman I had a deadline etc and she, in an email said that this was put into the marking dept and so on.... But still nothing. I'm just so hacked off, I thought I was going to be doing something positive with a change but it's all turned out to be a waste of money that I haven't got and now possible no course or certificate.
