HTH how about a sealed envelope to be opened after you've left the house which will contain a promise, or a picture in a mag or paper that made you smile, or a joke that made you laugh, or a question for them or a request. Only suggesting that because it will be personal and unique from you to them.
Radiotherapy does knock the stuffing out of people, you could take a pillow with you and get some rest and sleep during the car journey to the hosp and back.
Wishing you the very best and hope all goes well.

I would just like to thank you all for all of your ideas, just a few replies, if I don't quote who posted what sorry but brain not really up to remembering everything! Yes I am driving myself, I don't really have an option, we live in a very rural area, no public transport, and shall be traveling to Lincoln county hospital for the treatment. Yes the girls both understand what is happening (each a little differently obviously) but they have watched me go through chemotherapy and surgery and so neither are particularly worried about the radiotherapy aspect, it seems so easy compared to everything else (not that I am suggesting it is). I do love some of the ideas you have all given me, it is really hard to come up with things sometimes and I am sure that all this has been far harder on my girls than it ever has on me, I think it is much harder for those around me to watch this happen to me :( than for me to go through it.

I hope that the treatment goes well for you. My LO loves the usbourne "things to" range of activity cards / books there are ones like things to make, things to bake, things to spot in the garden etc.

Could one of the girls sit in on your treatment some of the days? My friend could take someone along to hers for a chinwag, although of course she chose only close family/friends.

What a completely inspiring post. It never ceases to amaze me how, when someone is faced with something so worrying, they manage to be so selfless and focus so lovingly on others needs. Your kids are very, very lucky to have you poly1.

I was thinking exactly the same. Reading a post like this is quite humbling.

Even though I don't have any suggestions re. keeping your children entertained in your absence, I wanted to post to wish all the very best to you all, you sound like a lovely family.

If your older child has a suitable phone, get her a cheap memory card to put in it and get them both to take lots of photos of their days during the school hols. You can get them printed up cheaply in Boots or wherever and get them a cheap photo album to put their pictures in. Ask them to take photos of everyday stuff, what they had to eat, what they wore each day, any wildlife they see, birds, insects etc and when you look back this time next year at your "missing" days, none of you will feel that you missed out on anything. Or get a couple of disposable cameras, even the little one will be able to operate one of these.

I just re-read this thread and realised what a good idea this is, thank you so much. They actually both have cameras so this is brill, we can print them out at home too, anyone know where I can buy cheap but nice scrapbooks/photo albums for them??

You can get the real cheap flip type photo albums from the pound shops! If you want something a little nicer, Boots, Wilkinsons, WH Smiths all sell photo albums. Wilkinsons is also good for cheap, plain photo frames which the girls could decorate themselves with those little sparkly stickers, they sell a good range of childrens craft stuff too, so they could decorate their photo albums as well.

Be prepared for a house full of glue, glitter and fake feathers though! :)

Hope this link works - it's a video camera from Maplins for £29.99 - the girls could make movies and then show them to you later when you get home?

    Hope all is going well...

cant the hospital provide transport? have you had radiotherapy before? from what ive heard from friends it is exhausting and i would worry about driving yourself

you may find that you'll be very tired for the rest of the day and the time that you have the therapy so i admire your intention but your kids wont think you've forgotton about them! so please concentrate on getting better and staying strong.

what about puppet or card theatre games they could do little plays for you when you feel up to it
