JSA query

Ive been getting JSA for 4mths now & am failing to find any F/T work but have managed to get a P/T job now starting next week - its only 12hrs to begin with & have been told it may increase in the future (few months when demand is higher) -
I know you can work under 16hrs & still get JSA but is there a financial limit ie. also cant earn more than X amount a week too??
Hoping to get another 2nd P/T job soon to top it all up & get off JSA altogether.....
thanks

???? I maybe didnt make it clear enough in what I was asking - sorry
as in If working under 16hrs a week do they DWP also apply a maximum amount you can earn in that week before you can no longer be eligible for JSA??
ie. working under 16hrs but bringing in just £100/wk ??0 -
the amount you can earn is £5 then everything over that is deducted £ for £...so, if JSA is £67.50 and you earn £55 then you get £55 wages and £17.50 JSA. If you earn £5 more than JSA then that is the cutoff. You can still sign on for NI contributions but you would not receive any payment0

You already have your answer - if you earn over £5/£10 per week your benefit will be reduced £ for £.
The government says you need £67.50 as a single adult per week to live on in addition to housing costs - if you're earning nearly £100 you can continue to sign on but are unlikely to receive any benefit payments.0 -
jesus. Thanks guys - 2nd job a major priority then as I didnt realise it was £ for £. Thankyou for your replies. How they think anyone can survive on £67.50 a week is still a joke.... I have a mortgage so get no help there. Seems you are better off renting to get all the help thrown at you. So unfair .....1st time in my life (22yrs paxing constant taxes/NI etc) that Ive had to sign on & 1st time ive have ever struggled so much to get a job....

It sounds as if you are on a JSA contribution based claim. If you have been assessed for JSA Income Based then you can apply for Mortgage interest payments. If you haven't been assessed for JSA IB then you can ask them for a form and they'll check your entitlement to that side of the benefit. Willl take about 2 weeks though. It does depend on your circumstances though so you may need speak to them to check if it's worth your effort.0
