Mrs F currently works within a local authority that is making cutback and her premises is being closed.
She has had a meeting today where the discussions regarding suitable alternative employement was discussed.
Mrs F's current place of business is a 5 minute walk and she does not drive.
The hours she works also fit in perfectly with the children, one primary school and one secondry school.
Early indications are that the proposed alternative employment would be an hours bus ride away. Due to its early stage, times and positions are yet to be discussed.
She was advise that if she turned down a job that was offered to her she would forfit her redundancy. Obviously from reading other threads and information, this is not 100% correct. It would depend on if it could be proved to be unsuitable. This would only be discussed when further job information is provided.
She would also advise that we would have to do a 28 day trail period of new job. Is this correct ? Can the employer insist on this happening.
I know its early days and i haven't actually asked much and its all second hand from a teary wife.
Thoughts please ??

Yes on both counts. You would have to demonstrate that the job was not a suitable alternative, but childcare responsibilities and being unable to fulfill them is generally an acceptable reason for turning a job down - but everything always depends on the specifics of individual cases. And yes they can insist on a trial period.0

Thanks very much for your clarification SarEl.
So even if the she deemed the alternative job offer not suitable, she would still have to trial it anyway ?
