Dvd Recordable/chrissie Pressie

Hi

After setting up our new DVD recorder I decided to apply for the free trial from Blockbuster. On playing the first one last night the picture was a thin strip across the middle of the TV. Our TV is pretty old and not widescreen. Does this mean we need to buy a widescreen TV. Hope this is not a silly question. Just thought if we have to we may as well try and get one in the sales.

Thanks

    Hi guys

I know its not a very technical question but any help would be appreciated. Going out shopping soon and would like to know if a new telly has to be on my list

    cheers
  • On Ours It Allows You To Select Screen Size?
my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!
  • Make sure the output from the DVD recorder isn't set for 16:9.

If the film on the DVD was in a widescreen format, you're going to get a letterbox effect on a normal aspect TV.

Did the people look very fat or thin? If they people look OK, then your DVD is probably showing the film in 'letterbox' format or in widescreen which your TV is doing its best to show. You see all the film image, but you get the black areas at the top and bottom of the screen.

You could set your DVD to show "centre cut-out", this will fill the TV screen but it'll cut-off the edges of the film images.

DVD and digital TV with on older 4:3 format TV is never going to be 100 satisfactory.
