I removed a belfast sink as it was really bad for my back and prevented me having the dishwasher very close to the sink. I replaced it with a white ceramic sink which I really love the look of.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

Thank you so much - when I first started this journey I wanted painted kitchen units with a butler/beflast sink - It will cost too much to have painted units - we have instead almost decided on the white gloss ones from Ikea - and have now taken a u turn on the butler/belfast sink. I am not happy with stainless steel if it is going to scratch badly so am weighing up the others - thanks for your input this far - and am loving the piccies of the sinks above - thank you x0

PS - We are thinking of oak worktops with the white gloss units0

Oak does look nice with white. Ours are beech, couldn't afford oak 23 years ago!
I haven't found that the stainless steel scratches easily, at least not if you get a good quality one. Ours has the "non-scratch" linen finish on the surround and drainer, but the sink bowls are just the ordinary finish.
In the "granny flat" we have a regular finish, 1 1/2 bowl with drainer Franke, same age. It looks good too.
Our daughter has an "inferior" SS sink in her flat (not sure of the make) and it looks like it must be at least 50 years old!! It has looked like that since she bought the flat when it was only 2 years old.0 -
I'm planning to have corian worktop fitted with corian/stainless steel sink. It's all seamlessly integrated. At the moment I have Blanco 1 1/2 sink with drainer, I really don't use the drainer much,
so I find that it takes space that could be used for something else.0 -
if you're going for an oak worktop, I'd think twice about an undermounted or belfast sink. You run the risk of water getting into the wood over time and ruining it. A "sit-on" sonk would be a much better option.
An undermounted or belfast sink is far better suited to a solid worktop surface e.g granite, quartz or corian.0 -
In our previous house we had the 2 1/2 bowl Franke with no drainer, just the drainer basket in the 2nd sink. I always found there was not enough draining space, I must have a lot of "non-dishwasher" stuff I think!
So this time round we went for the 2 1/2 plus drainer, and I do find it good for draining large pans etc.
In the 1/2 bowl we have a waste disposal unit which I find excellent, would highly recommend anyone doing a new kitchen considers getting one.0 -
I agree totally about a decent sink size, don't get me wrong I have a dishwasher and do put baking trays in it but there are a lot of things I prefer to hand wash and like a decent size sink! This is what we went for and I love it, I would never have anything smaller than this,it's just far too useful.

Stainless steel.
If it does get really, really badly scratched you can replace it. Builders merchant own brand s/s sinks are cheap as chips.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
