Homecar insurance

Anybody taking homecare insurance with british gas for plumbing, is it worth it? Thanks

You may wish to change the thread title to Homecare - people will think this is a car insurance thread otherwise.

I have Homecare 400 - plumbing, CH, drains and electrics. I have neither the time to go searching for a decent tradesman or the money to pay out a major bill. With homecare, I can however budget for a monthly premium and it gives me peace of mind.

Have had excellent service from them over the years. Drains pressure washed to shift a blockage, pipe repairs (at 10pm on Easter Sunday!), boiler repairs (new circuit board, valves etc), and a new radiator.

Also had their powerflush service for around £400. Initially I resisited this because I thought it was a hard sell on their part and is one of the only things you do have to pay extra for. The engineer was here for 3 days clearing all the sludge from the system. I could have got it done for £300 from a plumber but the BG price was fixed. The plumber would have charged a lot more I reckon.

Some would argue you can self insure for this service - £20 a month stuck in an account etc. However, you still need to find your plumber / tradesman and there are a plenty of cowboys about.
