Homecare insurance with gas

I am having problems with water hammer and a loo who does not flush properly. Last time the engineer came to fix my central heating, got an insurance with british gas, he told me to take an insurance for plumbing and they will come and fix it. Does anybody know whether I could do this as they are existing problems? Thanks

We have a problem with water hammer also aswell as some rads only getting lukewarm, some at the top and cold at the bottom.I am considering the british gas insurance aswell.I read on their website that cover doesn't start for the first 28days or so it may be worth checking this out, take the insurance out and wait the necassary period before contacting them with your problems.0

Your toilet not flushing would be classed as wear&tare, so i dought it would be covered, and i dought the water hammer would be covered also.

I would say that they would class the problem as existing and charge you £450+ for a power flush.0 -
It's not that urgent and can wait for 28 days, but I am already covered with them for my gas central heating and boiler. I will ring and try to find out whether water hammer will be covered. Titewad if you do contact gas insurance, please do let me know. Thanks0

Ksrao, thanks how much does yours cost? Currently I am paying £14.75 for central heating and boiler, and have been with them for years. I am thinking of getting Homecare 300 or 400. I am not sure whether to do an upgrade or buy it separately as I see the plumbing and drains cost an extra £5.75 and electrics £4.50 if buying online with a discount for first time customer. I do not know whether I will be classified as existing customer. I am also thinking whether to get the electrics, please what do they actually do when they do the checks? I guess, it will cost at least more than £25 and they do increase their premiums every year. Somebody from BG phoned hubby a few weeks ago and offered him an upgrade for an extra £12, as it is now if I do it myself online it will be cheaper. My main concern is a burst pipe in winter and the central heating is 30 yrs old and my friend just had to replace hers last week, had leaking central heating which resulted in a collapsed ceiling. Please can I have your advice on this? Thanks0
