DH and I have £100 a month each spending money. That is for our own personal use eg hairdressers, clothes, etc. All other expenditure - fuel, groceries etc come from joint account.

DH spends all of his, I don't :D

I budget £300 per month and that doesn't include food or travel.

Shockingly I always go over...often well over.

    July account
Garden table £50 - Needed some furniture, old stuff not very smart.
Speaker cables £58 - A treat, nothing else to say.
Watch (gift for GF) £77 - Was in sale 70% off.
Wallet £4 - My old one was falling to bits.
Haircut £5 - Got clippers but every 3 month have a proper cut to tidy up.
Pen refill £4 - Quality pen, requires a refill cartridge.
Xbox game £17 - Self explanatory but good value.
Clothes £86 - Rarely buy clothes maybe once or twice a year.
    Dentist £17 - 6 monthly.
Beer £153 - More than usual but quite a lot of CAMRA stuff on this last month.
Massage £45 - Have one every 6 week when on nights.

Total £516! still need to but Daughters B-day pressent too so prob another £50.

I feel quite guilty when I see some people living of £700 for everything!
  • Me and other half earn almost the same. We get our wages paid into the joint account and leave in there a set amount (same every month) which covers food bills, gas, elec, water, council tax, mortgage and leaves a bit left over to go into our joint savings account for when we need anything else towards the hosue.

We then transfer what is left from our wages into our own personal account and can do with it aas we wish. We pay for holidays out of our personal accounts and take it in turns to pay for meals out and treats. It's nice to have the control over my own money knowing that all the bills have been paid for.
