I think I would just stop in Leeds. 3 bed house with a short commute there or tiny flat with a long commute in London?

I hope you are getting a huge increase in salary for this.

Id be careful of some areas in London, I've lived on some pretty rough estates in the north but there are areas in London which I wouldn't consider living at all.
Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

The flats you have posted are refurbed council flats in a high rise. The agent's description is very generous.

I totally agree. I lived in London for years. I would not say those areas are up and coming, that is just the estate agent talking.
  • I think you need to go to these areas and specifically where the blocks are and walk the journey from the tube/bus to them. No one can tell you where you will feel comfortable and happy. However, more pratically you may find it difficult to get a mortgage on some of these blocks.

It does appear they they are cash buyer type places, probably with massive service charges as well. Be careful.

If you are looking to purchase in a high rise as well, you are aren't going to find many mainstream lenders looking to lend.

A potential issue with the high rise flats is that a lot of lenders won't give a mortgage on anything over the 10th floor (I think it's 10 anyway). So that's something to take into consideration!

EDIT: lol stop to make a cup of tea and you end up with a crosspost :)

As others have said, you really need to visit the areas and at least speak to people who live in or near them
There are some areas of london that would be practical no go zones, and those would probably include any flat for that money in a high rise block
You really don't want to end up being scared to leave your home every day

might be worth looking at properties along the new overground line that was the east london line. easy commute to canary wharf and cheaper since there isn't a tube. you'd need a bit of local knowledge but there are certainly very nice bits of Crystal Palace, Sydenham or Brockley. it would still take quite a lot of looking to find a great flat in your budget, but you might get more value for money there.
