I did collect some rotten branches when I went for a walk with grandson , ive got a new wildlife pond its about 12 X 12 and I love it , its nice to add stuff to it which dont cost a penny its total natural looking, ive got very shallow end for the wildlife to get in and out of easily,:D......the water is very clear , ive got frogs by the hundreds..:D......its so theraputic to listen to the water and the birds, we all need some peace in our lives........I get a lot of satisfaction with my home and garden.........

My hens are still laying , they never seem to have a break, happy hens eh.:D....
Some kind person left me a carry bag full of delicous bramley apples this arvo by the back gate, :Twell pleased with them, then some one else left me 6 massive toms the day before, :T....you could tell they were home grown, how nice when people share ,everyone gets something different that way..:D.....

Yes I agree we are still quite a distance from major hospitals - having been air-lifted from the top of a hill in all weathers though, it's a lot easier to go from the heli-pad here!!!!

One of my children is planning on moving back, so hopefully I shall get to have the fun of island life and come home once the hard work sets in :). Were I healthier I would 100% move back (could I afford it).

Thanks again for all the good wishes. Am sitting in my hospital bed feeling sad & sorry for myself as painkillers don't seem to be working as well as they did. Also we have had to cancel a 3 day youth hostel trip next week which was supposed to be a (cheap) surprise trip for my DS2 16th birthday as It doesn't look like I will be well enough to go.

On top of that, I was chatting to DH when he visited this afternoon and remembered a couple of incidents from our recent camping holiday when I seemed to lose all strength in my lower body so couldn't get up without help. Don't really see how this fits in with my other symptoms but will have to tell consultant on Monday just in case - and I feel soooooo stupid for not thinking about it before. I'm sure the doctors will think me all kinds of a fool.

Am also trying HARD to remind myself how DH, DD2 & DS2 are doing their very best to keep the home fires burning the best way they can but am aware several months of my hard work OS'ing are being wiped out as I sit in my hospital bed.

I'm also aware of garden produce that must be ready to dehydrate or freeze to help get us through the winter and I'm not there to keep on top of it.

I know I must sound horrid, and unappreciative - just needed to get it off my chest to people who aren't close enough to be hurt by anything I whine about.....so thank you for reading.

Taurus honey nice to hear from you, I'm sure if you left instructions they could follow them. You need to concentrate on getting better. Stop worrying about things much less important & chat with them about it (((big hugs)))

taurus if you write out detailed instructions they may be able to do at least some of it. Just explain how helpful it will be. Children can be very helpful when you explain why and how they can help. Most things can be chucked in the freezer to dehydrate later.

Rest as much as you can. Worrying will not help. I hope you have a peaceful night.

:) HI there, Lidl-ing is a bit of a learning experience as the stores are smaller than most Mr T's, Sainsbugs etc and you don't have as many choices.

That said, some of us find the lack of opportunity for choice-paralysis a blessing. The do tend to sell out of things like fruit and veg by late evening and later in the day on weekends (sunday is problematic at my Lidl for fruit & veg) and mine doesn't have a stockroom and it's very much what you see is all there is.

I think a lot of the disappointment might be the combination of a late visit and the dramatically-different ages of your shopping companions.

I'd suggest visiting earlier rather than later, if possible, and keeping your eyes peeled for things on offer. The non-food items are always worth a look but don't go away and think about it or it'll be gone for sure. Always remember your own bags, as they charge for theirs.

My Lidl has lost ground to the cheaper ranges in other stores in the past 12-18 months and is not as bargainous as it once was for the items which I buy but it does have some very nice Continental foodstuff and their Formil-brand washing powder is rated only a little inferior to Ariel by such authorities as the Good Housekeeping Institute and the Consumers Association (Which?) magazine. HTH.
Hi, GreyQueen, thanks for your reply. I have shopped there before, so I was aware that the carried a smaller range and about the bags. Mine takes debit cards and also have the smaller style trolleys (but don't have baskets). What I was surprised at was being out of stock of basic items and how certain items that I expected to find cheaper weren't. It would make sense about the time I shopped. At the min I'm sort of stuck though cos I work 9-3 Mon-Thurs, always take my Grandmother shopping as she sees it as a 'social event' and as it's school hols have no choice but to take youngest with me. Kids (understandably) prefer not to go grocery shopping during day-time on the 1 weekday I have at home with them. I am trying to get my shopping that I mainly go to a 'discount' place and then just top up. I was just a b it surprised at what I'd need to top-up on. Aldi is my furthest away store, completely over the other side of town, not that far from where I work but I'm still stuck for going there, due to the issues of taking granny with me, and finishing work just in time to pick kids up from school.

    ............................................................................................

I took my youngest to her swimming lessons today, and there was a sign up saying they had vacancies on each day they ran. I've had a child swimming at council lessons on and off since 2005 and have never since a notice advertising spaces, usually you have to join a waiting list. My sister with twins waiting a year for 2 spaces! In today's paper it mentions more kids joining brownies and cubs/scouts etc as the price is far cheaper than many other clubs.

Hi Mrs Chip, thanks for passing on the recipe for banana ice cream. I can get loads of bananas that have gone past eating time and freeze them ready to bung in the processor - that will save me a fortune as OH loves his ice cream and I would rather him have good stuff not cheap but that is even better as theres absolutely nothing in it but fruit and cream!

Taurus, you will get better quicker if you take a deep breath, lie back and .....relax..... You will be amazed when you get home how well they have done and if not you can train them ready - god forbid- in case you are ever ill again! I spent nearly 3 months in hospital when I had my daughter leaving OH to fend for himself with a toddler and he even made shepherds pie and brought it for my tea! Mind you that was only once:rotfl:

    Hi Ginny

You certainly have to keep your nerve making this - makes an awful racket to start and then seems to take an age to get to the right consistency (add a bit more of your liquid of choice to help it along). OH loves it and as I hate over-ripe bananas with a passion this is an ideal solution. Herei s the James Martin recipe http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/instantbananaicecrea_86115 but I only added Carnation and it was scrummy!

Taurus - so sorry for you being stuck in hospital, I only had to put up with four days of it (and I knew what I was in for), but it is so hard to not being control of your environment. Hospitals are often hot noisy places, not really the best for feeling well or rested. And being away from home under such circs can be very difficult. Try to stay positive and take the time you need to get better, all will be well.
