Smiley, sorry you have this additional worry. Vets are up there with dentists for frightening bills. I am sure it has only been like that since pet insurance took off - if there was no insurance to pay out they could not charge so much. We have spent ages waiting in the vets and listening to the bills being paid - not one under £50 usually.

smileyt - another one here who is sorry that the bill was so big. Don't know what else to say except, again, that you were such a good 'owner' and friend of your wee chums (((hug)))
Glitzer - hope all is fine for you

  • Talking of libraries, Ive always used them since I was a child and my second job is as a librarian on Sundays. Ive noticed lately the amount of new books is dropping. One customer came in to reserve a book and there is only 1 copy between all the libraries in Liverpool! There was a bit of a waiting list to say the least. Problem is if this copy goes missing and isnt replaced as often happens, will another copy be ordered? Very popular authors like Martina Cole for example have 2 copies per library (there is a waiting list of over 100 people for her new book due out this week).

Went shopping to Sainsbury's yesterday as their economy range has more choice than Tesco and Asda now. Did well but didnt buy meat or laundry stuff and noticed some of the economy range has disappeared. Some items had all gone like the 17p curry sauce and 18p pasta. Managed to resist the Next clearance shop next door too:A
I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round

Hi suki1964 If my memory serves me right you gave me some really valuable advice last year re my stove, I am still indebted to you for that - thanks again.:T Now if I remember correctly I only live an hour or so down the road from you and just to let you know the sun has come out here now and I'm going to hang my washing out - so maybe here's hoping the sun will be with you shortly. :)

Glad I could have helped and yes I had 20 mins break in the rain so got a game of ball in with the dog

Smiley - thats a bummer with the cost :( I remember how much it cost to have my lad put down 7 years ago - frightening

Mar that's interesting about the volcanic ash and our fruit/veg - shall have to look into it. It has been a rotton summer here but it often is, and doesnt usually mean we have no crops at all - the summer has been the worst for me in donkey's years of gardening.
Loving the amish stories blog also - its a fascinating way of life.

lovely morning here but the gales are back again, rain pelting down.I shopped yesterday and prices seem to have risen drastically again - I usually spend around £40 a week in the supermarket, and then about another £40 in little shops - I spent almost £60 yesterday for the same stuff!!! It isn't getting any easier is it - I'm getting quite worried about how far my wages can stretch -really don't want to have to take on more hours (which i'm lucky enough to have the chance of) - my health and wellbeing suffers when I work too many hours

Smiley I know you wont do this lol but its what I would do. I'd walk in there in front of the people waiting and I'd START. Ask how the hell it cost so much for two poor wee hens etc and say loudly and twice lol - Well I was going to get more hens but this has decided me not to bother. Then the greedy pigs will see that they lost a customer. I seriously would not pay that without a huge fight. I think vets are very greedy.

We are still eating too much meat and not enough veg. Although we only have one big meal a day, breakfast is porridge and midday is a sandwich. Tea is a biggish meal but we dont eat pudding. (sob sob) I need to get a list of wartime cheap filling NICE dinners .

(Don't take this the wrong way smileyT It's indignation on your behalf)

You know you can buy two chickens for a fiver in Tesco???
Even a free range one is what £8? They've been kept fed and killed humanely, packaged, shipped round the country, and they are making a profit on them otherwise there would be no point.
So how on Gods green earth can the VET charge £104?? I'm certain DS's rat didn't cost more than about £25 OK I brought him home and we buried him in the garden, but it's got to be a 'small animal fee'

I'm with Mardatha, I think they are taking the P*** and I'd query it in no uncertain terms, and I think I'd also phone around a few other vets and see what they would charge?

Last blooming thing you need if your feeling sad anyway ((((Hugs))))

Well if they're doing it to smiley then they doing it to every school kid who has a pet mouse and upwards...and every pensioner who loves her cat or dog dearly. I think its just greed and contempt for their clients.

Oh smileyt thats just a damn shame. Bang goes your little nest egg to guard you against your times out of work! Its very expensive to put animals to sleep and I don't know why as its only an overdose of anasthetic. Praying on sadness I call it

Kate I think your gentleman will be very touched by your thoughtfullness, I have helped people out over the years and most have accepted it with the respect it was given. It will make his days much easier knowing his dog is fed, Im sure.

So the government want us to be optimistic - thats a bl**dy joke - who has an optimism left, just read these pages and see how people are being trodden down. We have optimism because of each others support but some poor disabled person stripped of their benefits with no one to go to or a pensioner trying to keep warm without family to help will be sadly lacking in their lives. I could rant more but its all been said before.

Oh is snoozing on the couch as he is a bit under par today. Made him cake and going to do a nice (cheap) tea for him. Hoping he is going to visit a friend tonight who has opened a darts club ( bloomin silly time to start a business but we are all trying to help) they need someone to sit and score the matches and OH has a mind like a calculator for things like that. May cheer him up being somewhere busy - I hope.
