@WMF Yep I got some of that cheese yesterday. It's Pilgrims Choice, my branch were limiting it to six packs per customer...but it works out at 1050g for £4.07...making it quite a bit cheaper than the £5.90 a kilo Welsh cheese I usually pick up offthe deli counter (that being the cheapest per Kg I can find) We get through a lot of cheese. I also discovered that Aldi's Edam is lots cheaper than Mr T's last week, even the stuff of the deli counter. It really pays to check it out, as the deli suprisingly is often cheaper than even the big prepacked 'value' stuff, if they have a cheese on offer.
Best wheeze in there yesterday (Mr T) was the baking potatoes @50p a four pack. Weight on packet was 750g however LOTS of them weighed in considerably more...the best being 1.4kg - I was struggling a bit with the maths (in my head) but I'm sure that made them cheaper per kg than anything else they had on offer. They didn't have any 'value' spuds or big bags to choose from though, it's not a huge branch.
I too spread my stuff out on the table (I scan all my stuff for the survey company shop and scan, God knows what they make of my buying habits!) and said to OH that lot cost £30 - there really was hardly anything there. Doing shop and scan feeds my book habit, I can get Amazon vouchers from them, and now I can use them in the marketplace too, I can get s/hand books as well. There should be 4 coming in today's post...I had £12 off vouchers to use, and think added another £5 to the pot, got two off my wish list, and two others, all non-fiction. Not bad for four books.

Do not talk to me about our government and the EU...DO NOT talk to me about our govern.....
Oh, you did. Off to take extra blood pressure pills.
And debating weekly bin collections when we're so far in the sh..erm..mire with more important stuff...?
Off to take extra water with said BP pills, I have cystitis and can't move far from the loo.
BUT...don't talk to me about the state this (and the previous) government get this country into...just don't talk.....!Normal people worry me.0 -
Actually, that Pilgrims Choice is only costing £3.63 after the discount is taken off!0

The biggest thing that strikes me about this govt is how they are trying to divide and rule and nobody can see it. First it was people on incapacity who were caught fiddling it and always in the paper or on TV. But they never show you the thousands of poor sods who are living really miserable lives because they were refused incapacity !
Then it was people in council housing - what started as homes for those who could never afford a mortgage because they lived on low/minimum wages is now seemingly a vast ocean of lazy shiftless people who lie about all day on benefits watching plasma tellies & getting free houses.
Younger people and lazy people who cant be a$$ed to think for themselves seem to believe all this propaganda - lookat some of the forums on here for proof of that! The danger is the divide. Once they tie things up so securely that you can never untie them then the ordinary person is lost. Look at utility companies - vast foreign owned with no ties to this country only shareholders mainly abroad... yet your very life depends on paying their bills to keep warm.
That's all so true!!! Who will be next?
IIRC it was the middle classes who started the French revolution!
Perhaps the middle classes just *aren't* working hard enough...only two jobs, you should have three!!! Children? Good God! You can't AFFORD children!!! Only illiterate scum have children, and we want to stop THEM breeding! No we don't need a work force for the future, we can import it!
Or pensioners, having the audacity to stay alive long enough to claim a decent wadge of their pension...Limit their access to current medical treatment, price them out of care homes, HEAT God they want affordable heat too?
Bar stewards....I hates 'em all!!! I used to work for our 'dear' chancellors father, and I can tell you that he has never in his whole life wondered where his next meal, or the money for his 'leccie bill was coming from. Grrrr.

Problem is, no-one will do anything about it. We'll all just sit here moaning about it on the interweb. It's over two years before another election and who will we vote for then? All the parties are the same, they just have different names.0

It makes me very sad to think that by the time my boys are my age, they probably won't have a hope in hell's chance of being able to afford to own a home or going to university in this country. Our long term goal is to emigrate, I can't see things getting any better.0

What gets me about a coalition govt is that no-one voted them in and yet they get to stay as long as a voted-in govt. There should be a limit of, say, max 2 years before a gen election has to called again - I know elections cost, but the coalition is a farce...I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
I can see the divide and rule ploy, Mardatha. I can see it very clearly and I am trying to fight my tendency to dwell on conspiracy theories!
I'm sorry, I seem to have started a very depressing debate. Perhaps Ceridwen is right about marching on Downing Street in our pinnies, except that would just perpetuate the image that a woman's place is in the home.

Mental picture of the year 1789 and a load of wee French housewives, pinnies on, sleeves rolled up over big muscley arms and a scarf round the head, standing talking over the backyard midden and plotting .... :rotfl::rotfl:0
