  • :bdaycake:Happy birthday SDG31000, what a lovely Oh you have. Enjoy your gift.

Mardatha feeling under the weather and no heating :(, hope things start to improve soon.

 welcome back nulabula, it is difficult to stay away isn't it.

Roseanna we lost our cat a couple of years ago whilst we were on holiday and she was in the cattery. We had her from a kitten and she was with us for 19 years. It took a long while to stop looking around for her.

Had a funny old day today, have been having palpitations on and off for 2 weeks and today had them so bad I thought I was going to faint (not a good move in the middle of a meeting at work). As I work in a hospital I went the A&E and got checked out. Heart tracing was Ok but bloodpressure not good at all. Will try to get in to see the GP tomorrow as I think it is now at the stage were I need medication.

Need to loose more weight and exercise more, and it will need to be OS with tins of beans and bottles of water as weights :).

Maslin pan (pressie from MIL) should arrive any day now. I am very excited. Have loads of fruit in the freezer to make more chutney with.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.
  • Evening all,

Mardatha - that sounds awful: 3 - 4 weeks without heating and hot water at this time of year. I've already taken to sitting here with a hot water bottle on my knees. Here's hoping they have been pessimistic in their estimate of how long it will take.

Rosanna take care and enjoy your time with Queen Cat. You're right. it's amazing the way they wangle their way into your heart and stay there.

I've had a pretty productive day. Softstuff's orange and chocolate muffins were delicious. We've still got four left and we're going away tomorrow morning so I've told OH he's having two for breakfast: he looked like a little kid at Christmas! I also managed to make a proper quiche for the first time (usually something goes wrong with the pastry and I end up with the filling inside and outside the pastry!) so I'm taking it for lunch for when we get to mum's tomorrow. I had a wee bit of pastry left over, so in true OS tradition I couldn't let it go to waste so I made four lemon curd tarts. And I've managed to clean most of the house so it'll be nice and tidy when we get back on Sunday.

Was talking to mum earlier - she obviously didn't hear when I told her our plum tree was groaning with plums as apparently she's got big bags of plums and damsons from her various neighbours for me. I think I'm going to be very busy making chutney and jam next weekend. Anybody got any favourite recipes they'd like to share?

Right I'm off for a bath in my gleaming bathroom:)
  • Happy Birthday SDG31000,what a fabulous present, here's to many happy baking years!!!

Mardatha - hope the HA get a move on,take care.

    Mrsvegplot - look after yourself!

Well OH is now working away for a month:( still,on the bright side I may actually get a chance to add to the stock cupboard - he wont be here to eat it all:D I keep adding to it but he's got a "healthy appetite" - his words - may have to find a place to hide odds and sods:cool:
    Give without remembering,receive without forgetting.

Roseanna, so sorry to hear about your cat :( they really do steal our hearts and become part of the family xxx one of our cats went missing 2 months ago and I cried for weeks :( still hoping she might return but the longer she's been away the less hopeful I am :(

Abakhan is a fantastic place :) enjoy your shopping trip there winchelsea :)

Not sure if this will be any consolation but mine turned up after a year. I had given up all hope on him, and then he was there one day when I opened the door. I nearly fainted, and he just started miaowing and circling my legs.

  • OH just lost his job, I am currently not working as about to start back at uni training to become a social worker. We still haven't saved enough for a new boiler and what we have saved will probably be used to tide us over until OH gets another job. All I can say is thank god the freezer is full and that this winter is going to be interesting without central heating!

can you not get help with replacing the boiler as neither of you are working?

Wouldn't know where to start to look to be honest. My only thought was applying for access to learning fund when I start my course. Its a masters though so not sure if I will be eligible to apply. The broken boiler is a back boiler, for it to be taken out and for a non back boiler to be installed would be £1800! Can't get credit as both of our credit scores are bad.

Mardatha the £34 saving on the coal will end up paying for the electric depending on how many kwh the convector is and how long you have it on a 2kwh convector with no thermostat on for 8 hours a day x 7 days will cost around £15 last year my kids kept leaving heater on in s /house and we used 39 units in one day:eek: before anyone realised they'd not turned it off  thats just short of a fiver which normally lasts three to four days just thought you would want to know after all you can get a fair few sweeties with that lol
