 £265 for a few buttons arranged in the shape of a butterfly!!!
Even I can do that and I'm as good at craft stuff as I am at gardening.
Thank you for the inspiration scottishminnie. I think I'll have a go and try to make something for Noreen out of her buttons and she can hang it in her room. There are lots of shirt buttons in the pot and they will work well for that.

That's a really nice idea - I'm sure she would appreciate something which was linked to her own belongings:)
In fact you've kind of got me thinking - it may be an option for future baby gifts - a small frame with the baby's name (or initial when it's a long name) in either blueish or pinkish buttons. I think I'll play around with my haul and see how I get on.
I guess the good thing is you can practise on a sheet of paper and sketch out your design then play around with the buttons.
Yes, this could be a nice little gift option - thanks SDG:T0 -
Maryb - sloes should be picked just after the first frost if you can wait till then.
Thanks JenniO. Not sure there will be many left by then. There was lots of blossom on the blackthorn back in April but I can only find one bush with sloes. Maybe the others are behind - we'll seeIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Alternative is to pick them when ripe(no greenishness to berry and squidgy between thumb and forefinger) and then put them in the freezer overnight before processing them.
Ooh, thanks Seakay. I didn't see your post to start with but that sound like the answer because I don't want to miss out on the small quantity I have found (not that I would need all that many for just some sloe gin). I've also heard that sticking them in the freezer saves all that tedious poking holes with a needle as they swell and burstIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Yes that's what I heard too - pop them in the freezer and then use for making sloe gin without further pr!cking
Skint but happy with my lovely family

Another Rangemaster here too. All gas 110. Sounds like a Landy and I often confuse DH talking about it as he thinks I'm talking about Land Rover tyres :rotfl:. The latch went on one of the oven doors recently and it turned out to be a simple job to replace myself. Absolutely love it especially at Christmas with all the family home."It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." Unknown0 -
I've got this one and love it -

Got a very old English Electric (sixties model) with four rings, grill pan and oven. It has it's quirks but is still going after all this time. I also have a Rayburn Regent oil range and never use it simply because I can't afford the oil! And as a tenant, can't change it (or afford to) to solid fuel.
In emergencies though I have been known to cook over the open fire, and also keep camping gas stoves if needed."Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0 -
we've got a 7 yr old Baumatic range cooker with a gas hob and two electric ovens. Probably a bit over the top for just the two of us, but it's great when we're batch cooking or if we've got visitors.

ETA: and in the interests of OS I am trying to use the smaller oven more these days instead of the big oven!0 -
