Traffic noise

Hi - moved into a 13 year old flat several months ago. All double glazed but the bedroom is on a busy road, & I get a lot of traffic noise. Could anyone recommend any solutions? As it's a purpose built I am mindful to not do anything that would breach the lease.
I was thinking of contacting a soundproofing firm but wanted to get all facts 1st.

Thanks for any advice!

  • Have a look through the DIY threads - there are a few on DIY soundproofing. Even if you cannot do it yourself it should give you an idea of the cost. Some Soundproofing firms have a VERY high mark-up so go into getting the quotes with your eyes open. Any decent builder can do it (rather than a specific soundproofing firm).

Edit: try putting your job on ratedpeople.com and gather quotes that way too.

  • snore calm ear plugs (ebay). Cheap and work a treat.

I moved from a very quiet house to a busier road and using ear plugs has sorted any problem.

You can still hear things (alarm clock, smoke alarm etc) but it just cuts down the loud passing of lorries etc to a level that wont wake you up.

Well worth trying before shelling out loads on sound proofing! :money:

Blanket thickness interlining in your bedroom curtains will make a big difference and cost a heck of a lot less than getting the builders in.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
