AFAIK all your neighbour has to do is maintain a boundary
Maintenance of a boundary is not the same as maintennace of a fence. It may be that the OP is responsible for maintenance of this particular boundary or that it is a shared responsibility.

I would have thought it would not cost much or be a "huge task" for you or your "carpenter" husband to put up a few fence posts on your side to secure this fence and make it "safe".

A fence made out of pallets may be unsightly, but perhaps your neighbour is on a tight budget and that is all he could afford?

pallets are extremly heavy and even just a drop from a tiny height (few inches!) can cause alot of damage. haveing these things stacked on their side on top of one with no support! is just crazy!

What exactly did the OP say? I envisioned the same setup that z1985m described. How have you interpreted the OP?

As for z1985m's comments regarding pallets being 'extremely heavy', this is not always the case. Pallets come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The UK standard is about 1000x1200mm but the weight of an unladen pallet varies dramatically, some are as light or lighter than a standard fence panel.

    This:
but the fact that there is no support that we can see
just because the OP can't see any support doesn't mean that there isn't any.

Apologies, I thought that your point of contention was with 'how' the pallets were arranged (i.e. on their side) rather than whether they were supported or not. My mistake.

No worries. These things happen. :D

  • It wil have to be taken down and I don't see why we should have to go through such a huge task when the damned thing shouldn't be there in the first place

If their 'so' difficult to negotiate with then putting up your own fence seems the dream ticket to resolve your grievance...

Or up the anti. The OP could construct a fence made of dead cats. That would be a bold statement.
