Converting DVD files to AVI files

Hi
I've just bought a DVD from Amazon (not copyright protected) and copied it to my desktop PC. The DVD consists of 7 episodes and i want to have a single AVI file for each episode to store on my USB drive for personal use. If i rename any .VOB file to .AVI then this seems to do the trick. The problem is that each episode appears to be split into 2 or 3 VOB files eg
VTS_02_01.VOB
VTS_02_02.VOB
Any way to combine files such as above into 1 AVI file? In the above example, the episode length is 24 mins yet 01.VOB is 21 mins and 02.VOB is 3 mins...don't know why its randomly split.
Thanks
