Moving out early - daft or clever?

Hi All,

I'd really appreciated some opinions on whether what I'm thinking of doing is daft or not?

I accepted an offer on my property 10 weeks ago and its been slow progress but I think we're almost ready to exchange contracts (hopefully)

I've got busy times coming up with work and won't be able to take much time off so I'm worried that we'll exchange and then the rest of the chain will want to compete quite quicky, but I won't be able to take any time off to move, so that will delay completion by weeks (which I don't really want to do either)

So I'm thinking of moving out earlier (before exchange), as I can take time off work in the next few weeks. I will be moving into my boyfriends, and my stuff will be going into storage (until we buy a new house together)

The only downsides I can see are that I'll obviously be paying for storage for longer (a lot longer if the sale falls through)... and if it does fall through and I have to find a new buyer.. they'll see an empty house and think I must be desperate to sell and therefore offer less?

But the upside it'll all be done with no stress at a time that suits us, so when we come to compete its nice and easy.

Am I being daft? :o

Thanks

Move out and get the stuff into storage while you have to the time to arrange it. Worry about empty house syndrome after if the sale falls through. Which it probably won't. You can always move your stuff back in to dress the property if you need to

Curiously enough, I think that empty houses often look better - should it come to a resale.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Thanks ,,, Yes I think I'll move early. Might cost me a bit more but will be less stressful I hope.

Whenever we viewed an empty house it made me think the opposite, that they were in no hurry to sell as they obv had somewhere else to go so may work in your favour in that way

Me too, the rooms look far far bigger and you aren't distracted by the vendors collection of antique chamber pots or frightening evil-eyed teddy bears...

It wouldn't have crossed my mind that the person wanted to go quickly or had no other options; quite the opposite in fact - it suggests a less stressed vendor to me as they are calm and all sorted.

I think you are being sensible :) cel x
