Black and White Laser Printer

Can anyone recommend a laser printer that will work well. Fed up with inkjets, refills mess unreliability etc. I fancy one one with a network port so as to plug into my router....

Black and white, reliable, not too expensive and cheap to run.

I have a Brother HL-5250DN - It's fantastic!!! - I've been through a number of older Lasers, and this new one I bought is outstanding! - To summarise:

It's very small - fits on a desk nicely
It's FAST! - 32 pages per min
It's VERY quiet - when it goes into standby/sleep you don't know it's on!
It's fast to start-up - even from sleep it's pushing a page out in a second or two!
It's LOW power consumption - one of the lowest I've seen.
It's Duplex (double-sided) printing.
It's USB and Networked
It comes with a full 3500 pages toner (not just a starter one)
Refills are reasonable price
It's just a shade under 200 pounds
You can expand the memory if you wish (only really needed for multiple users, or high volume work)
You can also add a second paper tray if you like
Web interface for status, etc....

All in all, I've been VERY pleased with it - does everything I wanted and more....

Just to add - there are cheaper lasers - I did get a samsung one for a friend for 50 pounds, but watch out for the toner prices, and the toner capacity - also these cheaper ones will not be networked....
You probably could get a networked one for about 100 I'd guess...

Wow - helps a lot actually. Sounds perfect.
I don't mind spending a little more to get the right printer.

I've got some PC world vouchers to spend, hoping I can find this model in the shops to buy today! Have a PC world and a John Lewis not too far from here + usual array of high street shops.

I've got an HP Laserjet 1022n - currently about £190 from dabs.com. It has networking but not duplexing (which would have been an excellent moneysaving features). So far after a year of use it hasn't let me down once. Running costs are fine so long as you get your toner in advance so that you don't end up running down to PCWorld to buy it at inflated prices when you run out!

I bought a supposedly refurbished HL-6050DN network laser printer from them.

It was actually BRAND NEW (all page counts zero etc) and it stated this on the delivery invoice.

These retail for around £400-£500+ and I paid.....

£85 including delivery!!

excellent tips.. I've got an inkjet here next to me - an HP845C. I'm just fed up with buying cartridges and working with them, last set I got off ebay didn't print properly and I had to throw away. The ebay seller kindly sent me another free of charge but this didn't work either - streaking, clogging, primed, cleaned etc.

I do a fair amount of DTP work and it will be nice to have something that works as cleanly/reliably as the printers at work.
